Can an XP Pro CD be used to run chkdsk /r on an XP Home installation?

Thanks,

Steve

The CHKDSK /R function does not require a XP CD.
Only the SFC /SCANNOW command requires the XP CD,
which must be the same version as the installed version.

Thanks for the reply Carey, I understand that but you can't run CHKDSK
from the HDD if it won't boot and the user has no XP Home CD for the
system. So what I am asking is can she boot from an XP Pro CD and run
CHKDSK from that to fix her drive errors? I'm not talking about doing a
repair install, just CHKDSK.

Thanks,
Steve

Ok, we found out by trying. For future reference booting from the XP Pro
CD and entering Recovery Console allowed loggin into XP Home on the
drive and running CHKDSK from C: drive. Problem solved.
Thanks for the replies.
