My install says it failed and indicated a corrupt file
advising to run chkdsk.

I ran chkdsk to fix the problem.

So while Windows Update says it failed, the winver says
it's there and so does Add/Remove Programs.

How do I know if it's successfully installed and/or can I
reinstall it to be sure???

Hi

If winver reports "Version 5.1(Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158:Service
Pack2)" and SP2 is in Add/Remove Programs, then it would apprear that SP2
has been installed. You can try one more test:

Right click on My Computer and select Properties. The resulting screen
should include "Service Pack 2".
