I have a new Asus K8V motherboard which includes both VIA
and Promise SATA raid connectors. I also purchased a
Seagate 120 GB SATA HDD. I've tried to run the XP Pro
setup to install on the Seagate drive many times and many
ways but with no success. I've loaded the drivers by
pressing F6 and setup procedes normally until it self
reboots. Then it will bring up the boot screen and stay
there indefinately. The indicator bar will cycle and
occasionally pause for a second or two at different
places in its travels. I've even installed Win 98 on this
drive with NO problem then run the XP setup only to get
the same result. I would appreciate any help that you can
give me...

Possibility of faulty RAM.
If you have more than one stick, remove one, then the other, rearrange them
into different slots and/or try different RAM.

Hmm.. Well, if you just said you installed Win98 on the SATA drive, I would
say yes.. But seeing as you were able to setup XP on a stand-alone IDE drive
in the same system (I'm supposing) - then I would say you have a SATA
controller problem. Bad motherboards are not unheard of.

I'm glad to here someone else is having this problem. I
spent hours during a S/W load and can't seem to get
partitioning to work. Sorry... can't help you.

IDE drive with XP insalled and I formatted the SATA drive
and started over. I reinstalled XP to the SATA drive with
no problems. I then went into the BIOS and reset the
primary boot drive to the SATA drive and rebooted. The
screen read "NTLDR missing - press any key to reboot"
Went back into the BIOS and set the primary boot drive to
the IDE drive and rebooted. XP started up fine. Went into
My Computer and checked the C: drive properties which was
virtually empty. Then I checked the D: drive and that had
all the Windows files on it. I tried to change the drive
letters on each drive but it said that you cannot change
System drive letters. Is there anything that i can do to
move NTLDR to the D: drive with windows? I was thinking
to run setup again and choose either "press R" or try
to "repair this installation" later on in the process.
