XP Home offline data strategy

Hi.

I have several clients who want to take their data on the move with
them, and then synchronise from the laptop to the desktop when they get
home. There is no server available, and I was hoping to do this using
briefcase, setting the laptop up to synch with the main data store on
the home desktop manually when connected to the home wireless network.
However, briefcase gets very confused with Access databases and also
with Outlook files. Is there a better path I can take? The laptops
(being bought by institutions) have XP Pro, while the desktop typically
has XP Home.

Thanks,

Iain Hallam.
