xp group policy

I recently created a GPO for specific XP group policy
options and I added the XP templates into the
administrative templates.

If I add the XP-GPO at the domain level all the settings
take effect (classic startmenu, control panel for
example) on my xp pro workstations. Well I created an OU
just for XP workstations and linked to the XP-GPO I
created earlier and took it away from the domain level
and the settings never take effect.

I deleted the GPO and tried to create a new one at the OU
level and imported the templates again. I set my
settings in the policy but they never take effect on the
XP clients.

They seem to only take effect if they are set at the
domain level...well we have some xp users that want new
startmenu but most want the old so that is why I am only
wanting to apply these settings at the OU level and not
the whole domain.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Chad

sounds like you are making "user configurations", not "computer
configurations". Move the user account that you are using to logon to the
new OU and it will most likely work.

Each GPO has two sections Computers and Users. Computer Configuration ONLY
applies to computer object, and the same for the User section.

Derek,
Thanks for your reply. Sorry it has take me so long
to respond..got real busy then went on vacation. You are
right and I guess I wasn't seeing the forest for the
trees or I was just wanting it to work the way I wanted
it. I didn't want to have to restrict all users to the
classic start menu, just most and was hoping to do it by
machine, so no matter who logged in they would get the
classic start menu.

So right now I have the policy at the top domain level so
it just effects everything/everyone and for people that
want the new xp menu I just run the reg keys to change it
back.

Thanks,
Chad
