I was working on a home wireless network today which had two Toshiba
laptops each with wireless cards and the client wanted to implement
file sharing on each computer. I enabled file sharing on each
computer. One computer is a new 17" Toshiba w/XP home and the other
has win98. Both computers have access to the internet through the
wireless DSL modem. I was able to get the XP machine to see the 98
machine and share files, but I was unable to get the win98 machine to
see the XP machine. Any suggestions? The customer is happy as they can
now swap files but it should work both ways.

Gary

I have full access to Win98 machine from the XP machine. When I search
for the XP machine from 98 machine it doesn't see it.

WinXP machine have any type of Internet security/Firewall on it (WinXP
firewall, Norton, Mcafee, Black Ice, Zone Alarm)? If so, it needs to be
configured/turned off before it will let the 98 machine in.

I had a similar problem with setting up our network with my roomies. All
you have to do to fix the problem is put the XP Cd in the 98 machine. When
the XP screen loads up go to Additional Tasks and click on the Networking
Icon. It should install some files on the machine and u need to reboot.
THis worked for us, hopefully the same for you.
