First I want to say that I realize that this may not be the correct
NewsGroup for this question/problem, but I could not find a more fitting NG
to post this issue to.

I installed a Linksys WMP54G wireless card (802.11g) in a Dell Dimension
E310 running Windows XP SP-2 and attempted to connect to a Belkin Pre-N
router today with unfavorable results. I installed the Linksys Wireless
Network Monitor software and then I installed the card. The card installed
fine without any problems. At first I was able to connect to the Internet,
but very slow. A short time later when I attempted to connect to the
Internet I was unable to.

IPConfig shows that I have an IP address being assigned by the Belkin
Router, and it also shows the appropriate IP address for the Gateway, DNS,
and DHCP servers. If I attempt to ping any domain name or IP address
(including that of issued to the client machine) I get a request timed out
message.

I have changed from the Linksys Network Monitor Software, which disables the
Wireless Zero Configuration in Windows XP, to the Windows XP wireless
configuration, which starts the Wireless Zero Configuration, and both have
the same results. The Linksys Network Monitor Software shows that I am
connecting to the Router, but I have no connection to the Internet. Windows
XP (Wireless Zero Configuration) shows that I am connected to the Router,
but there is no diagnostic beyond the Router connection. I have checked the
security configuration of the router, and there is no filtering, including
MAC filtering or other security other than encryption security which is WEP.

Anyone have any suggestions, including which NewsGroup I should post this
issue to if this is the wrong NewsGroup?

Hello,
the first thing I would look at would be the config for the router.
There should be a status screen that should give the WAN details
including the IP address. Perhaps something is amiss there.

What ever IP you get for the default gateway when you do
an ipconfig,should be the address to access the router
config from the web broser.

I am writing this as a follow-up to my question and to inform those whom are
interested what my findings were/are.

I had already tried many of the suggestions that were given to me from this
NG and others, but in my research I found someone with a similiar problem
and they found that running the WinsockXPFix worked for the person who made
the post. This fixed my problem temporarily, but it appears that the
computer may have a trojen/virus worm due to some error messages that the
user reported to me today. I may format the HD and reinstall everything
(which is not a BIG problem) and then see how things go from there, but
first I am going to attempt to remove the virus. I am also going to switch
out the wireless card made by the same manufacture as the router (Belkin) -
after all, they are less expensive than the Linksys cards.

I want to thank all of those who replied (Jack MVP-Networking and dave xnet)
to my request for help, I really appreciate your attempts - it is nice to
know that others with knowledge are still willing to offer advise.
