I have a problem with microsoft game mechwarrior4:
vengence, when I try to play the game I get a message at
the very start with :FAILED (0x80070057-WINERR_One or more
arguments are invalid) Set(0x1678d68:
EAX_ReverbProperties.EAX_D I am running XP home, cpu is
AMD Athlon 1800, integrated Audio option, 32xCDRW, hard
disk is 40GB 7200 rpm, 512Mg ram, and a 64Mg DDR GeForce 4
MX 440 TV video card. I have accessed knowledge data base
article 314505 and enabled audio compression codecs etc.
with no change and tried reinstalling the game, again with
no change. can anyone please help? in laymans terms if
possible please.

John,

The error message states "EAX_ReverbProperties.EAX_D" as part of your
problem. EAX is an audio technology created by Creative Labs, which allows
game manufacturers to create games with better, more realistic sound
quality. That being the case, I would guess that MW4 is trying to
initialize an audio feature your sound card cannot handle right now.

You may be able to resolve this issue with updated drivers for your sound
card, but if your sound card manufacturer offers no support for EAX, you
might not be able to work-around this issue without buying new hardware.

Please reply back to this post and include a copy of your DXDiag text, which
will help us to be able to check your driver versions and see if newer
drivers are available to try to resolve this problem.

To reply with a dxdiag text:
Click on Start -> Run and type 'dxdiag' in the run box, then click 'Ok'.
When the DirectX Diagnostic Tool window appears you will see tabs across the
top click each tab and run the diagnostic tests on each. Then click the
'Save All Information' button, which will create a text file on your system
where you specify, as in My Documents or Desktop. Open that text file, copy
the contents and paste it to a reply.

Nick , I have done as you advised re DxDiag, but every
time I send it to you it is returned, I've no idea why
