I have a new Compaq/HP desktop. It came with a pre-installed Compaq Windows
help program. So when I click on Help, I get the Compaq version.

I'd like to access the one which comes with Windows XP Home, but don't know
how to locate it - either on line, or buried in the Windows XP installation.

Please help.

XP's Help and Support is helpctr.exe

Start | Run | Type: helpctr | Click OK

helpctr.exe is normally in...
C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries

I do not know if XP's Help and Support gets didabled by Compaq/HP.

Can you uninstall Compaq Windows Help from Add or Remove Programs?

Hope this helps. Let us know.

A fast way to access the Help and Support is to:
Hold down the Windows Logo key (between Ctrl & Alt) and press F1 key.

I seem to recall this Compaq Help service is an installed program; you should
be able to remove it from Control Panel>Add/Remove programs.

Alternatively, I think if you stop the service that will restore the normal
help behaviour.

See what happens when you paste the following line into Start | Run and
click OK...

C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\helpctr.exe

Can you uninstall Compaq Windows Help from Add or Remove Programs?

Start | run | Type: appwiz.cpl | Click OK

If you can, reboot.

Then if XP's Help doesn't work...

Now that it appears that Compaq has removed MS Windows Help and replaced it
with their own version, I wonder whether MS offers the Help function at an
on-line site as does, for example, Intuit.
