I have got an older Compaq Laptop that came with Windows XP. Recently it
locked me out and I had it repaired. Since the repair, I did some updates and
it seems I did one or two that weren't wanted. The first one is: somehow it
got converted into the XP Proffesional version from the XP Home version that
I would like to go back to. The other problem is I accidently downloaded
MicroSoft SP3 into it. And from what I have heard, it will not allow you to
turn your wireless iternet antenna on or off using the button on the front of
the machine. Any help that anyone has would be appreciated.
Bob

The only way to upgrade XP Home to XP Professional is to purchase XP
Professional (about $100, if you can find it) and install it. XP Home
can't be converted to XP Pro any other way -- at least, not legally.

If you obtained your updates from Windows Update - as you should - you
need not worry about obtaining improper updates, since Windows Update is
designed to offer you only those updates that are appropriate for your
computer.

I have not heard of any problems that Service Pack 3 has caused with
wireless antennae.

There is no Windows update which can convert XP Home to XP Pro. The version
must have been installed by the repairman

So now you have installed the SP3 update, can you switch wireless on and off
from the switch on your machine?

Mike,
I replied to your message earlier today but i haven't seen it posted so i'm
going to try and remember what i posted so you may receive it a second time,
please forgive me.
As far as i know, the guy did not put the new XP Professional into my
computer.

My wireless internet button on the front of my computer will not let me turn
the wireless router on or off. If it is on then the only way i can turn it
off is to use the mouse to bring up the task bar, right click the wireless
icon and select [DISABLE] or if it's off then i have to do them same and
select [ENABLE].

Recently I went and deleted some things like MS Office and a few other not
needed items and my computer locked up on me, I got frustrated so I just
turned it off and left it be for now.

Can I jut do a complete reboot with the disks that came with the computer to
set everything back to the way it was when it was bought?
Thank you for your time, Bob
