Windows XP will not disconnect from dialup

Windows Xp sp 2 , usr 56.k modem
512 mb ram
athlon 2500xp
WHen I right click the icon to disconnect or even when disable in
network connects, the internet hangs and will not disconnect. Is there
a registry setting or something in options to configure disconnecting
immediatly?
