The situation:
The cpu fan died when I was away from my computer, and the cpu got fried.
I've since put the hdd that has windows xp pro installed on it into another
computer and tried to boot from the drive.

It had 98 also installed in a dual boot config, and 98 will boot just fine.
XP was the os running when the cpu overheated. XP will not boot and the
computer will just restart. It also does this when I try to boot into safe
mode. Could my installation have been hosed when the cpu died?

Korbit, it's more likely a problem with WinXP looking for all the old
Device Drivers from the other computer.
Do a Repair Install.

How do you do a repair? I've never gotten it to work. I've typed "r" and
removed the CD, but either I am removing it worng or Im impatient.

What is supposed to happen after I take the CD out of the drive?
