A number of high-priority updates became suddenly available.
Run http://www.update.microsoft.com/ to get to the updates.

Several are for Vista (KB967131, KB959543), but I also found some for XP
(KB961118, KB967715), plus optional updates (KB959772, Root Certificate
update).

As always, Windows needs to restart after the updates.

P.S. At least one of the updates above fixes some printer problems that
occurred after installing the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 update.

I think the most useful of these is the one for autoruns.

Even Windows 7 has a few updates today--some test, some real.

I'm getting an update install failure for the autoruns one (KB967715),
but there are no specifics as to why. Any ideas?

Are you installing it with the explicit download (from
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/967715) or via WindowsUpdate / Microsoft
Update. If WU/MU, what is the error number you are getting (check
'Review your update history') ?

Start > Microsoft Update. On the history page last night, I clicked on
the update link rather than the status one, so I didn't see the code,
0x8007F0DA. The three-step fix
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958050) is rather elaborate, but
fortunately this morning an update notice came and the install went
smoothly.

Glad it went in eventually. I haven't had any failures yet, so I haven't
had to do any troubleshooting. Generally, the first thing I do is grab the
separate download for the patch and try that. If it fails, I look for a
kbxxxxx.log file and see if that gives me any direction to try.

More updates became available today, for Vist (940510), and several for
Windows 7 [beta].
