My father has Windows Millenium edition and he is unable
to download the free Microsoft Spware beta. What does he
need to do to benefit from this protection?

He would need to update to Windows XP. Otherwise, he can install two other
free antispyware programs:

http://www.lavasoft.com/ - Go to the download page and look for the free
version, they also have a pay version with additional features

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/ - Spybot Search and Destroy

My father also had Windows ME and I finally convinced him to upgrade to XP.
ME was a source of constant problems, and since I have to maintain his PC
(he's 90 miles away), it was a real problem for me! Just make sure his PC
can handle XP - see the Microsoft web site for details

Hi Nadine,
May I suggest going to http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/default.mspx
for best practices. Be sure to watch the video!
There are other freeware/shareware scanners out there that will work on
Win98 & ME
systems. Thinking Spybot and Adaware just to name two.
