Windows Messenger screwed up my audio

I decided to try out the webcam feature on the Windows
messenger today. While doing this, it asked to enable
an "acustic echo cancelation feature" to prevent feedback.

Now since it was turned on, the effect can not be shut
off. EVERYTHING i play or hear on my computer is slightly
muffled and echoed at .25 seconds (roughly).

If anyone knows hot to counteract this or disable it
totally short of formatting, please e-mail me.
