I installed Windows Defender and updated the defintions with no problem. ran
scan ok also. How do I know if Real Time protection is really working? All
of the appropiate check marks are on, but i dont see any activity or sign
that the defender is actually running on my toolbar. Is there any way I can
verify that Real Time is on? Thanks
Oh, its beta 2 version..

Hi bob

It seems (or it is) that you must be "Advanced Spynet member" to see
any
notifys, everything is otherwise surpressed.

G'day Bob,
There's a couple of files ticking away in Taskmaster
'processes'---MSASCui.exe & MsMpEng.exe
Current signature versions and installation dates for Defender are kept at
Windows update site under 'review your histroy'
Same current version sig. is on the Defender Home Page and, Help> 'about
Wndows Defender'---there's an update button there too, if you really need it.
Better is to: 'Tools'>general settings>auotmatic scans--check the box 'check
for update definitions before scanning' (if it's not checked by deault)
You'll find your 'real time' protection in there too----mine was on by
default.
If you'd like to see it in action, there's a 'scan' button on the Home Page.
If you right click on the Defender icon you can drag it to your links and,
copy it there; when you click on it you get a nice green line and, it tells
you something reassuring--just like Windows One Care; it all helps to ease my
paranioa too.

But that still doesn't answer what I think is a major problem. It is not in
the active toolbar but is hidden. Why isn't there an option to unhide if
wanted?
