Hello.
I have a few PC's here both vista and windows xp, and they have windows
defender installed.
Well they have all started asking to check for updates for windows defender.
When i click on the button to do the upades it scans and says there are no
new updates.
Afterwards it keeps showing the icon in the taskbar asking to check for
updates.
And in windows vista it also has a security icon showing saying defender is
out of date.

How do i solve this issue?
Why wont it realize that there are no new updates?
Where can i manually download any new updates and install them?

Are you running any beta software on these machines? If so, you should
discuss this symptom in the forums related to that beta software.

One thing to try (whether or not beta software is involved):

go to www.microsoft.com/security/portal

and download the appropriate Windows Defender updates from the right hand
column. If you are unsure whether 32 bit or 64 bit is correct, try the
32-bit versions.

No i am not running any beta software on any of the machines.
The vista machine is even a basic lab pc that has nothing but windows vista
business 32bit installed on it.

I did download the updates manually using a link somone provided in one of
the other threads,, (which is identical to the site you just linked).

The manual updates worked fine.

We will see if this happens again when autoupadate time rolls around again.

I hope that `someone` you mention was not our beloved, trustworthy and
thoroughly reliable ENGEL. Please remember the name and cast it in stone
In fact, he regularly posts (with very informative preambles), the `Delta`
download URLs in the `Spyware Signatures` section for those of us who prefer
to update defs that way. I also happen to believe, he likes CCleaner, cos he
slips that in too - occasionally.
