Hello,

On a PC running Windows 2000 Pro, the CD-R drive door keeps opening and
closing every five seconds or so. I'm not sure how to proceed. Should it be
removed and re-installed? Or should I update or replace the driver for it?
Thanks in advance.

RH

Sounds like the eject button is stuck/bad. Try it on another computer
if possible, that will tell you real quick where the problem is.

A virus/malware exists that causes this exact symptom.
Pay a visit to Trend Micro's Housecall.

In case you find it exibits the same bad behahavior in nte other box,
you may be able to unstick it. If the problem doesn't appear
mechanical, you may be able to re-flash the firmware of the drive.
Sometimes it helps. Not usually, but it'll be no more dead then
before......
