Hi

I'm using win XP pro (sp1 and all latest patches). Also running AVG 6
Free -- (aug 12 update).

II got hit with the Win32parite virus.. It nearly wiped everything but I was
able to reboot via safe mode and go to a restore point before the virus hit.

Problem:

AVG scans and doesn't find any trace of the virus - but I still get messages
that claim certain files are infected with the same virus in c:\system
information\restore (or something similar)..its a hidden directory deep
within the system restore stuff I think.

Even when Im logged in as administrator - I cannot access that folder
because windows (dos) tells me "access denied". The folder doesn't show up
in windows explorer even when all hidden folders are told to display.

so there's still virus remnants in the "hidden/restore point/whatever"
folders..

Question: How can I access that directory and eradicate the supposedly
infected files (since I get "access denied" messages -- even as
administrator) and AVG doesn't see it?

system restore is protected by the operating system... the only thing
you can do is purge all your restore points by turning system restore
off and rebooting... if you want you can then turn it back on and
reboot again...

AVG does not find everything. I had the Bagif virus last month. AVG
never saw it.

nothing finds everthing... that's one of the reasons you shouldn't rely
solely on anti-virus products to protect you from viruses...
