Win2K and "Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disk Controller" no DMA?

Hi,

I have a very old laptop that I was given. It's a Toshiba Portege
320CT. I wanted to upgrade it to Windows 2000 Pro, and I was actually
able to get that installed and working, but when I checked Device
Manager under IDE, it's showing "Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disk Controller"
items, and when I go to the Advanced setting it looks like the hard
drive is "PIO Only" even though the setting is for "DMA if possible".

The problem is that Toshiba only has drivers through Win98 on their
website. They also have a BIOS 8.00, which I've flashed, which,
according to their notes, says it's the initial version for Win2K, but
no drivers for Win2K.

I know that this is a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone has any
idea about how to get DMA enabled? I'm wondering if there is maybe
another IDE driver software that I could use and/or tweak and then use
that would get the DMA working?

It's REALLY slow with the PIO !!

Thanks,
Jim

Run a program such as Belarc Advisor to identify the chipset in the
computer. Then go to the website of the manufacturer of the chipset to
download the Windows 2000 version of the chipset driver, and install.

Hi,

I just ran Belarc Advisor, and all it said was "Standard IDE/ESDI Hard
Disk Controller", with no manufacturer info ...
