I have all previous XP updates and downloaded SP3. It is now a nightmare. I
have tried fix per "Device Manager and Network Connections may be blank after
you install Windows XP Service Pack 3" article:953791. Steps 1 thru 6 ok but
when I go to step 7 (Find Next), registry is searched box appears, and then
Finished searching registry box! Where oh where is registry subkey
"$%&'()*+," as stated in step 8? I am at a loss.
When I enter HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM per step 4, in the RH screen I get
Name: ab(Default), Type :REG_SZ, Data: (value not set).
I have tried the symantec recommended fix but results are "no invalid
registrys found"!
Any experts out there who can help ?
Brgds Leigh

Well you have to expand the tree(s) in regedit, then locate the file. However,
if not familiar with regedit, better off trying other methods....1st,for
networking,
open internet connections,L.click the hardware icon,in L.sub menu,select "fix
this connection" close out.Open add/remove windows components, chk for
greyed out network box,if so,select it,chk the box.Also,go to run,type:
cmd In cmd type:CLEANMGR run it,typeefrag C: Once its thru, type:
Sfc /Scannow Install xp cd,exit the menu.Once Sfc is thru,type:CHKDSK C: /F
Agree to restart, type:EXIT Remove cd,restart pc.Also,id disable norton thru
all this.
