hi
I had the hard drive freeze on me and crash . When I restarted the comp ,the
boot up failed . So I restarted , used F8 then ran CHkDSK at the c:>and it
finally booted up after it ran the check disk .

Since then thought , on a startup , it boots very very slowly and I cant
figure out why as It never was before that hard drive. On the boot cycle it
turns the montior on twice .....it never did that before either . After that
inital CHKDKS, I acutally did another check disk by going to my computer >
properties>tools>check now . Under check disk options I checked both boxes .
Then I Restarted the comp and on the reboot it ran the check disk which took
hours and did it said it repaired some errors . But not the boot up issue .

Is this a boot ini issue ? Or another issue ? any solution suggestions ?

Running CHKDSK C: /R On start-up is never a good place for that...Try
booting
to xp cd,press r For recovery at xp cd boot menu, select 1 For C: Press
enter for password.Type:Fixboot Agree,type:CHKDSK C: /p Once its thru,
type:EXIT Let xp start-up.Also,if you hd froze &/or locks up,might download
the MS-DOS hd checker from the hd mfg web site, install to MS-DOS formatted
floppy, boot pc to floppy, run the tests.And/or consider replacing the hd,more
problems are sure to start...

Andrew
thanks for the reply. Im afraid its a bit over my head though . One thing ,
both times using CHKDSK , I wanted to just clarify , I didnt use CHKDSK C: /R
I used chkdsk/f ...........Im not sure what your wrote....
CHKDSK C: /R is.

The suggestion you gave me, to xp cd,press r , do I do that after pressing
f8 on the boot up ? Do you mean I have to use my xp CD ?

Lastly , I know I have a western digital HD , I dont know the model
though.......will I be able to get the HD checker without the model number ?

thaks for the help
Joe
