Why Are My documents in use?

When I open up a Word document, I get the message that 'This Document is
being used by (my name). Do you want to make a copy'

But I haven't got another version of the document open. I'm the only user
on my non-networked PC. I assume this is another strange Win2K thing. Is
there some kind of setting I need to change?

This is a bug in Word.

If you go to the processes tab on the task manager you will find that Word
has not exited (winword.exe is still running).

I can't remember whether doing 'End process' on this task will disown the
document or if you have to reboot.

I found another fix too, Andrew,on Google, just after I'd sent my post. I
had to type winword /r in the Run box and that fixed it. It fixes something
in the registry. The message on Google said that this would work if you had
no problem opening the documents if you went to File, Open and sure enough,
that was what was happening to me. All is working now.

Where is this TaskManager?

Task bar right button menu has a Task Manager option or

Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and click the Task Manager button.
