I downloaded a list of likely business prospects from the internet in an
excel file format. When I go through the import wizzard at the last step a
message comes up without explanation "can not load source file." What is the
likely problem? What steps do I take to be able to laod this data?

Outlook does allow you to import Excel files .xls. If the source file
indicates a problem then I would check the original file you saved from the
internet and confirm it was indeed saved as a .xls file. Also make sure
that the files is not read only.

Try saving the excel file a comma delimited text file and try again.

It all is subject to how (the format) the original source file (excel) was
saved in. If you save it from excel to a tab delimited txt file then it is
more likely to import into your program. Your import to program probably
will not convert an excel file. It is real hard to import a file from excel
for all of the factors that have to line up right. If you open the document
in Excel then convert it to a document format by doing a save as, then it
will be in a more easily read format for the import program to accept. There
is a lot of residual data left in an excel format that a word processor or
art program is just not made to figure out.
