After years of functionality, I now can no longer simply use the send/receive
button when I am sitting in the inbox awaiting email. I now get an error
message "Operation Failed." At virtually the same times when this began, I
also found that when I go out into the net I am now getting debugging and run
time error messages. The only thing that is relatively new is that I acquired
MCafee. Is there anyone out there who can point me in the right direction
other than suggesting that I toss my computer out the window and then follow
it?

I'd start with uninstalling mcafee. Detect and Repair in outlook might help
too.
