I'd like to try linux. I've heard of redhat and suse and am wondering where to start. Which would you guys recommend?

Would I be able to chat with someone using msn-messenger?

Thanks

Have you tried using a Linux Live disc so you can see what flavour you like?
Also have a look at www.distrowatch.com

as feckit said it is probably best to try out the linux live disks. Everyone with linux has their own preferences and which distro ou prefer comes down to the individual user so i would download a bunch of live disks and see which distro you and your system likes best

specs:
intel q6600/xfx 780i /ati x600 (upgrade in the pipeline)/4gb pc6400 ram/80gb ide hd / 320gb ide hd/dvd-r/rw drive/700w psu

Pick one you like ... I have Suse 10.1 on one PC & Mandriva 1006 on another ... Kopete is the IM of choice for many and it will "talk" to all the IMs.

If your PC does not like the Distro you choose, then choose another ... one reason I'm using two.
