i've ordered dsl and am not sure which port is better, my
usb or the via built in lan card. any ideas?

Both are capable of speeds exceeding anything DSL will be giving you,
so it doesn't matter whether you use the USB or the Ethernet
connection.



I would be a little surprised, however, if your DSL provider will give
you a modem capable of using either connection. The Ethernet
connection is more or less the standard and most DSL providers offer
only that.

oh, i see. bellsouth said they were sending a modem and i
needed a usb port for it, but someone else told me it had
cables for a lan card. so i wasnt sure. i didnt want to
use up a usb port for it.

I'd use the LAN card. Connecting a DSL modem to a USB port probably
requires installing a driver program for the DSL modem, which can be
troublesome. Using a LAN card keeps a USB port free for a camera,
scanner, or other device.

I would stay away from a Broadband USB Modem.

Most of Entry Level Hardware (Like Cable/DSL Routers) are not compatible
with USB.

If you would like to Share or Go Wireless you would be "Stuck".

I.e. get an External Ethernet DSL Modem.

BTW, the Ethernet does yield a slightly more stable DSL Connection then the
USB.
