Whether to upgrade to IE 6.0?

I am currently running Netscape 4.79 and IE 5.5 (Windows
98 second edition, Pentium II/350Mhz processor, 5+ gigs
available disk space, 256MB RAM). If I upgrade to IE 6,
will this installation interfere with the functioning of
Netscape? I need them both to work, and do not want to
upgrade Netscape at this time...

>Shouldn't,butttttt you could get a cool browser for free

from www.download.com it's the avant browser.type
avant in the search box, only takes up 2 MB of space, has a
built in pop blocker and choice to disable flash
animation so web pages load faster, then your 5.5 wont
have a problem with Netscape.has all the goodies of
6.0,and more.

No, and MS considers IE6-SP1 a critical update: http://snipurl.com/4bgz
(Anthony Grey leads the IE Development Team at MS).

To assure a clean install
(http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers.htm#preinstall), your anti-virus
application should be disabled and all other running processes closed before
going to Windows Update and when downloading/installing from any MS page.
After rebooting, return to Windows Update for additional patches and updates
you'll need.

>Thanks for your response. If I download and install IE6

SP1, will that give me the basic IE6 browser? In other
words, can I install this SP right over my IE 5.5?

And to confirm just one more time... there are no known
conflicts with Netscape 4.79? We currently use Netscape
Messenger for our email and do not want to change at this
time. I need to be sure that none of our current
functions, including email will be altered...
