ok, I figured out how it happened (I think)
When I assigned the macro to a toolbar button, I let it
default to 'any workbook' and I had another workbook in
the same folder with an outdated version of the macro.
I'm still not sure how the macro disappeared from my
template but that is how it was executing ther macro in
another XLS file.
