hello,

i have a 34.2Gb partition but the properties of the disk
only show it as a 16.9gb partition.

disk manager shows the correct size, so it is partitioned
correctly.

wherever windows keeps it's logical disk information
seems to be wrong, can this be edited? i cannot simply
delete it and restore.

PS - it's a basic disk (0x07). and it's an NTFS partition.

please help!
Rich

There isnt any.

the partitions as decribed by disk manamgemt are
fine...like this

----------------------------------------------------------
Disk0 |...............|.......................|........|
Basic | | Local Disk (C | |
34.25GB | 39MB | 34.20GB NTFS | 8MB |
Online | Healthy (EISA)| Healthy (System) | Healthy|
----------------------------------------------------------
the point here is that if i right click on that C: drive
and choose properties, i get:

Used Space: 15,458,902,016 bytes 14.3 GB
Free Space: 2,694,287,360 bytes 2.50 GB

Capacity: 18,153,189,376 bytes 16.9GB

somethings wrong, partitions seems fine so whichever is
telling windows how much total space there is, wether it
be the NTFS itself, or volume desciptor (or whatever) is
the part i dont know about.

i'm sure there is some hex editing to be done here
somewhere! can someone point me to the right area?

kind regards
Rich

'EISA Configuration'
I think the configuration may be something the pc manufacturer put on there.
You may want to give them a call.

the EISA partition figures seem to match up, the main
paritions figures add up to the 30gb mark they should do.

what part of the disk is telling windows the volume size?
this must be seperate from the partition information else
they'd never mismatch.

the partition size must have been changed at some point
without windows knowing about it...? (

The pc manufacturer may have put restore/recovery info on the 'EISA
Configuration' partition.

Hi

thanks for your input so far, i am howver 100% sure that
the EISA partition (which i am familiar with) is not the
cause of this problem.

i have several servers with these partitions, they are,
as you say, manufacurers partitions (compaq in this case)

it's okay where it is, and it is supposed to be there.

my problem is whith my 30gb partition which windows knows
is 30gb but has only mounted a 16gb partition to it.

kind regards
Rich

You might see what diskpart and or dmdiag has to say about it.

I had a similar Problem after resizing a nfts-system-partition.

If possible, try to boot your system with a free knoppix live-CD (http://knopper.net).

Start a console-terminial and type: "sudo su-" at the prombt. That will make you the user "root".

After becoming "root", type: "mount" to check if your nfts-Volume might be mounted.

If you are not familiar with linux disk-devices type "cfdisk" with no options. In most of the cases ist should show you your partition if it is located at the first IDE or SATA Disk.

Assuming it is the first partition on the IDE-disk at the primary IDE-controller type:
"ntfsresize /dev/hda1" and follow the instructions. (Make an image with norton-ghost or acronis first)

Assuming it is the first partition on the SATA-disk at the primarySATA-controller type:
"ntfsresize /dev/sda1" and follow the instructions. (Make an image with norton-ghost or acronis first)

If you are too much afraid of using a linux-live-cd on your own, send me a message via this forum, or try to contact me through my website http:///www.help-it.org. I managed to customize a knoppix-live-cd with a vpn-client to make a desktop-sharing through the internet.
