What's good for me may be useless for you and vice versa. Worth can only be
determined by YOUR requirements.

Although I personally like Vista, if you are currently running Windows
XP, you should ask yourself why you would consider upgrading to Vista.

My view is that you're going about this backward. A change of
operating system should be driven by need, not just because there is a
new version available. Are you having a problem with Windows XP that
you expect Vista to solve? Do you have or expect to get new hardware
or software that is supported in Vista, but not in XP? Is there some
new feature in Vista that you need or yearn for? Does your job require
you have skills in Vista? Are you a computer hobbyist who enjoys
playing with whatever is newest?

If the answer to one or more of those questions is yes (and your
hardware is adequate for Vista), then you should get Vista. Otherwise
most people should stick with what they have. There is *always* a
learning curve and a potential for problems when you take a step as
big as this one, regardless of how wonderful whatever you're
contemplating moving to is. Sooner or later you'll have to upgrade (to
Vista or its successor) because you'll want support for hardware or
software that you can't get in Vista, but don't rush it.

That depends upon *your* requirements and computer usage habits.

Hi Tyrith,

I have tried many different OSes. I guess what everyone has suggested is
pretty straightforward. You should really think whether you need the change
of operating system. I know that many of us do actually still run or just
migrated recently from Windows 2000 or 98 to XP or Vista. I love windows XP
due to its not that resources hungry.

Of course Vista is catching up with its SP2 and stuff but really, to enjoy a
true Windows Vista experience you need a rather powerful computer. Despite
all the tip and tricks that are available on the Internet that you can apply,
Vista -as a matter of fact- need much more resources than Windows XP.

At the end of the day, I would say its nice to have vista (I am pretty lucky
that I got a free copy of it); but if you don't really need it. Just stick to
XP at least until next year.

How powerful, and how much more in resources? For speed,
e.g., I was staring at a machine in a store yesterday that
claimed only a pair of 2.0 GHz processors.

Hi Anthony,

I would recommend 2.4 GHz Core 2 with 4MB L2 Cache (If you have the money),
4GB RAM (This is not overkill for running Windows Vista), and a dedicated
video card (if you play games or using Adobe CS 4).

Hope this help,
