I ran the install several times it goes through all the phases gets to the
completing install portion reboots....you get the Microsoft green scrolling
bar then the screen goes blank and it sits there and never changes...Try to
bring into safe mode but it said that you can't until installation is complete

Not sure what to do to get around the blank screen during it's final
phase...have tried to install 3 times....no luck

Which build of Windows Vista? And how did you obtain it?

I've had this same problem and haven't had any luck with it.

Toshiba Satellite A105 with Intel graphics chipset
Vista RC1 32-bit downloaded from Microsoft's CPP program.

I've read where some people think it's a video driver issue, but it's
happening to people with ATI, NVidia, and Intel chips. Also, it seems to me
like the whole system is just hanging. I get a few seconds of hard drive
activity and then no response. Restarting just tells me the install was
unsuccessful and that I should try again. Which I have done. From a boot
and an XP install, both clean and upgrade. Same issue all around.
Installing generic graphics controllers in place of my Intel ones don't make
any difference, either... Sure wish someone knew what was going on here.....

I found that there are times during the Vista install where you don't see
any activity for minutes on end so when it appears to hang be sure and wait
for about 20 minutes before you give up. These periods of inactivity
appeared to me longer when I as doing a Vista upgrade then when I did a
clean install.

Well, in my case, I have left the system on overnight in this state, and
still no response.

I was having this problem last night. I even went as far as making sure
there were no issues with the upgrade advisor but, I still could not
complete the install and it would roll back over and over again.

I found that when I removed my antivirus ( McAfee Corporate) It upgraded
like a champ.

Hope this helps

I'm getting this issue whether I'm upgrading from XP, trying a clean install
from XP, or trying a clean install from a DVD boot. I've tried on both my
primary partition and setting up a dual boot from two separate partitions.
Basically, no matter what the install scenario, I'm getting a blank display
after the system gets to the "Completing Installation" phase, and it never
recovers from it.

The "Completing" phase usually displays for ten minutes or so?... then the
screen goes black. And never comes back. I've left my computer in this
state for 24 hours and I never get any type of response back. Just a black
screen and no keyboard input or hard drive activity. After powering down and
restarting, the Vista screen loads and says the installation was unsuccessful
and that I should try again. Booting to safe mode only tells me that
installation cannot continue in safe mode.

I guess at this point there's not going to be a fix, and since MS has
finalized the Vista code, they're not interested in supporting RC1. Guess
I'll just have to buy a copy in February... If I decide I want to spend one
to two hundred dollars on a product I couldn't even install during its RC1
phase (I know it's a beta and not perfect and all...but it does seem a little
pathetic that a widespread beta was released that couldn't even be installed.
And I'm not the only one who's encountered this issue, either...)

I had problems installin gtoo,
only way i could get around it was to make a second dvd.
i used winimage to extract files to directory and copied contents to a dvd

I use iso image (bootable)to start install process and just put in second
dvd when i put in
dvd key.

since then have installed four times no problems
