Vista Mail - Composition Font?

(Background: I have two computer systems side-by-side; one is Windows
2000/Pro, running fine for years, and the other is Vista Ultimate, running
fine for days. I have converted the Vista computer to the Classic mode, to
make it appear as similar to the Windows 2000/Pro as possible.)

Question: How can I change the font used in composing an email?

In the W-2000/Pro system, the font used in composing the email was the same
(Arial-12) as shown on the retained sent copy. On Vista the font used in
composing the email is quite different, perhaps the New York Times font.
Strangely, even though composed in this different type, the retained sent
copy appears in the desired font, Arial-12.

Best regards to all.

Unless you always send using HTML, the composing font is only
for the eye-pleasing benefit of the composer. Messages sent as
plain text are at the mercy of the recipient's reading font selection.

To change the composing font, the obvious path is Tools, Options,
Compose, Font Settings.

Yes, that is obvious, and in that window I had set both fonts to Arial 12,
yet the font in composition is clearly not that. Any other ideas?

Thanks.

You didn't address the other part of my reply.
Were you composing in HTML or plain text format?

Sorry, I didn't realize that was a question. I compose only
in plain text format.

Thanks for continuing the dialog.

Best regards to all.

Well, you have me stumped then. For me, the compose font
for plain text is whatever I've selected under Tools, Options,
Compose, Font Settings.

Is there an award for my having done that? :-)

Again, just in case you forgot from my initial post, the
sent copy shows the correct (what I've selected) font; it is
only the composition window that shows a different font.
Here is how I worded it before:

"On Vista the font used in composing the email is quite
different, perhaps the New York Times font. Strangely, even
though composed in this different type, the retained sent
copy appears in the desired font, Arial-12."

If you get a good night's sleep, and awaken with a new idea,
please post it, or email me directly (replace dubya with
w ).

Thanks again for your assistance.
