Vista extremely long shutdown and startup troubleshooting needed!

Issue 1)

It can take up to 10 minutes shutting down and restarting vista.

I am at a loss since i dont see anything usable in performance logs, just
things like "task xyz took longer than expected". But i know that already.
I need a good troubleshooting methology WHAT takes so long to shutdown my
vista.

Issue 2)

Long STARTUP.

I have an idea it *might* have to with my network, when another PC is down
it might be the case that Vista tries to connect to the other PC and waits
and waits and waits
While its starting up, everything else is locked up and i have to wait some
minutes for Vista to load.

I had a similar issue on an old XP box, in this case it was the
"Workstation" (or Server???) service. So i wrote a script to start those
delayed which saved my problems.
But now in Vista, even with the new options "Auto (Delayed Start)" i can't
set this since it comes up with an error message.

The network issue is my guess...but i could also be wrong. Again, i need a
good method of startup-troubleshooting.

Thanks!

G.
