Hi

A PC at a clients have suddenly started to get problem with its NVIDIA
graphic card or driver (I don't know which one) and pc crashes to blue
screen at the very start of boot up. I asked them to start the pc in safe
mode and that lets the PC boot OK. Going to last known good configuration
did not work. I can normally access the PC remotely. My question is how can
I proceed from here. Is it possible to disable the NVIDIA drivers for now
and just use the normal VGA driver. Can I try something else?

Sure, in safe mode in add remove programs uninstall the Nvidia driver and
control panel.. It may be necessary to look in add remove programs again to
make sure another ver is not installed.. If there is, uninstall it too, had
some ATI drivers that needed this second uninstall, before the MS generic
drivers took effect.. May just need to roll back the drivers or install an
older/newer ver from the Nvidia site that won't cause a problem.. I guess
the worst case scenario would be you might have to replace the card if it is
a hardware related problem..

More likely to be the driver I guess. Try safe mode, remove the driver and
boot up. The screen will be horrible to look at for a while until the
latest WQHL driver from the NVIDIA website is installed. I wouldn't go for
a beta driver.
Have any changes been made to the BIOS? When you say that it happens at the
very start of bootup that might suggest a BIOS setting has been changed.

If its NV4_DISP.DLL then its the driver. If the machine is a branded
one like dell or HP, you can get the video driver from the drivers cd
that came with the pc. If that doesn't work, download the driver from
nvidia. But, if it doesn't work again, it might be the video card or
motherboard that has a problem.
