I downloaded a demo of a tennis game called Top Spin. But when I tried
to play the demo it gave me a message that said I need Vertex & pixel
shaders 1.1. Does anyone know what this is? Is it something I can
download from the internet? Or is this something that comes from a
graphics card? My emachines computer is bare bones when it comes to
multimedia.

It's provided by your video adapter and it's drivers. If your video card
doesn't support it, you don't get to play it.
