This ought to be -very simple- for this group.
Whenever I click on a keyword link that's contained in VB's Hel
section, I get this error msge:

"Internet Explorer Script Error
An error has occurred in the script on this page
Line: 1
Char: 1
Error: Object doesn't support this property or method
Code: 0
URL

[Yes & No buttons follow. Nothing happens when "Yes" is clicked.]

Is there an extremely-simple setting that I need to set?

This sounds like the problem described in Knowledge Base article
822989, in which case installing Critical Update 811630 should sort it
out.

However, there's a different fix if you're running Windows 2000 with
Service Pack 4 installed: open a Command Prompt window and enter these
two commands:

regsvr32 /u <drive>:\winnt\system32\hhctrl.ocx
regsvr32 <drive>:\winnt\system32\hhctrl.ocx

The first command unregisters the HTML Help ActiveX control, which is
what provides the navigation features in the help files; the second
command re-registers the control. This should fix the broken registry
entries that are responsible for the problem.

Thanks much for the reply [:-)
I burned 30+ precious minutes following your suggestions, went int
MSKB article# 822989 to try to get to-and-install IE 6 update# 818529
After I dwnloaded the update, every time I clicked on the update/app,
kept getting an error which sd:
"you must have Internet Explorer 6 installed to use this..."
The frustrating thing is, I -do- have IE 6 installed, specifically "I
v.6.2800.1106.xpsp1".

So I've hit a dead end, as far as that particular update....
[Why does it so often seem irritating as all getout, just to get on
and only one Windows update installed, as opposed to installing 30 o
40 that the Update site tries to shove off onto you?]
At any rate, I do appreciate your time!

Knowledge Base article 822989 recommends installing Critical Update
811630 as a way to fix the broken help links. Have you tried this?

HELLO, PETE!
I looked into your suggestion, & tried to install MS update #811630
It seems to be designed for Windows 2000 exclusively; I'm running X
Pro over Slim Browser over IE 6.0. When I tried to install, it gave m
an error, "this update is not designed for your version of windows."
I don't know if I made this clear: When I'm in the VB Help section
and click on a link/keyword I'm interested in learning more about, I'
getting that [above-mentioned] error msg right there in the Hel
section; it doesn't even shift me to IE before giving me the msge. I'
guessing the problem is w/ IE 'reading' the type of Help that MS ha
made available, but who knows...
At any rate, I appreciate your attempt to help [:-)

There are versions of Critical Update 811630 for Windows 98, NT4 and
XP as well as for Windows 2000. Here is a direct link to the XP
