USB scanner problem

Bought a Canon LiDE 20 as a gift for a friend. The computer it is
being used on is based on the ASUS A7N8X, Athlon 2500, and Windows XP.

Followed the instructions by first installing the software. Verified
the scanner worked with both the back panel USB ports. Front ports
required connecting the cable but worked fine.

After closing the case the front panel connectors now detect an
"unknown device". Running the troubleshooter suggests the USB device
may be damaged. Yet when plugged into the rear connectors everything
works fine. Opened the case to confirm the front panel cable had not
come loose.

What am I missing?

wired improperly? real easy to do
does your pinouts of the board match the connector.....many have not in my experience. Lately the connectors have been coming with
each wire having its own 'single' connector. This makes mistakes even easier. I would recheck the boards manual just to be sure I
hope that its a non costly mistake. Also with my P4B266 and a USB astra scanner, if I don't load the software BEFORE I plug in the
device, all goes bad. If I don't power on the scanner BEFORE turning on the computer, I have problems. Real quirky that way. Make
sure there are NO 'other devices' in device manager. If there are 'remove' them.

Hope you get it straightened out.
