I have a PQI 256Mb USB 2.0 CoolDrive flash memory device.
It works fine on my laptop (running Win XP Pro) and one of
my PC's (running Win XP Home, SP1), but not on my main PC
(also running Win XP Home, SP1). An external USB2.0 Hard
Disk runs OK on all of my PC's, as do my other USB devices
(printer, wireless keyboard/mouse).
I have tried the following - but none have resolved the
problem:
* Disconnected all USB devices and tried only the flash
drive
* Tried all 4 USB ports on my PC
* Uninstalled the USB controllers in Device Manager,
allowed them to reinstall themselves, and tried the flash
drive again.
When I plug in the flash drive, the PC goes 'boing', the
LED on the flash drive flashes for a few seconds, and
the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon appears on the task bar.
In Device Manager two new items appear - "USB Mass Storage
Device" - which appears to be working properly, and
another "Disk Drive" - which I can't access; when I
try "properties" my PC freezes.
In Explorer, the flash drive appears as G:, but Explorer
then freezes until I unplug the drive. I have tried to
change the drive name from G: but am unable to do so as
once again the PC freezes until I unplug it.
I have tried everything I can think of. Any help on what
to try next would be appreciated.
