Upgrade with full version?

Can you use a full version of Vista to perform an upgrade?

What I mean is: will the Product Key work, and will installed programs
remain intact?

Why do I ask? Having to install XP to do a future install would be a
PITA, so I'd rather buy the full version. However, ATM I'd prefer to
do an upgrade to keep my existing installed programs.

Yes, you can. My advice for ANY upgrades is to make SURE you have a full
backup of your XP BEFORE you do your upgrade. There are just too many
failures to take the risks unless nothing in your XP has any value. Your
choice.

The full version allows you to perform either a clean install or an upgrade.
However, i concur with John Barnes regarding the Backup of your data. Better
to be safe that sorry!

Excellent, thank you.

The "backup first" is a given
