Hi,

I am looking for a free universal printer driver that runs under
Windows Vista, 32 bit

The driver must support Lexmark's Z2300 series

Thanks

ps. Can a printer be damaged by using 'the wrong' driver. Or is it
just a case of it will, or will not, work?

species8350,
You can download a Vista 32bit driver for this printer from Lexmark at the
following
location:
http://downloads.lexmark.com/perl/do.../downloads.cgi
You need to enter in for printer name:
Lexmark Z2300

I don't think that you can "physically" harm the printer, with the wrong driver,
its just will effect the ability for the printer to work or not work.

Windows drivers are for "devices" not particular items like
printers. The Lexmark Z2300 connects as a USB device,
just like flashcards etc. You first instal the USB drivers,
then plug in the printer.

This is theoretically possible but very unlikely, especially
for USB devices.

Thanks for the responses.

I assume that any driver installed that is meant to run an inkjet
printer connected to a USB port must be configured to the USB port and
not to say LPT1. Am I correct.

I also assume that if I configure a number of printer drivers that
they should all be configured to the USB port if this is the port that
connects to the printer.

Thanks

This is more or less OK. Most USB device driver software must be
installed before the device is first switched on. In the case of a printer,
after it has been switched on you ought to see in
/ Printers / This printer / Properties / Details
a display panel marked "Print to the Following Port" with several
choices. E.g. one of mine shows:
BRUSB = Brother brand USB printer port
and a couple more BR = Brother settings (scanner etc.)
COM1 serial port
COM2 serial port
LPT1 parallel (printer) port
FILE
NUL
and because this is a Brother USB printer BRUSB is the correct setting.
There is another hot button to create yet more ports

Your "number of printer drivers" is not clear (whether you mean
one multifunction printer with a set of various drivers to scan,
copy, print, etc., or drivers for two printers.) Instal routines
for name-brand USB printers instal a suite of drivers in one
automated routine.

I would like to configure at least one other driver for a single
printer.

The printer is connected to a USB port.

I think I should configure the second driver to a USB port as well.

Thanks

This is not clear. What would this enable that you
cannot now do with the single printer as installed?

I am not really happy with the current driver, but do not wish to
unistall it.

Hence, I would like to add a second (Generic) drive to use.
