Hi,

I have a mass storage device of 2.1TB connected to a stand-alone Win2K
server which holds file level backup of workstations and servers. Some
workstations are stolen recently and we want to clean up the backup folders
of the stolen workstations.

But every copy of a workstation folder contains a System Volume Information
folder that can not be deleted. Windows says I've got insufficient rights to
do so. But all data is written using the system account (I presume because
copying is done by a scheduled script). File access is achieved using guest
rights, we don't have secrets for eachother, we're a happy company .

How can I remove these System Volume Information folder from the server???

Jeroen

You'd have to give yourself permissions to the folder before deleting it.

Already thought of that, but when I try to change the settings as the one
and only Administrator I get an error message telling me I have insufficient
rights to do so. There are no policies, no limitations, shares are available
to Everyone, Guest account is enabled (only two users, Administrator and
Guest).

So far so good, and then came my problems...

You can gain access to the System Volume Information folder by following the
steps listed in the article below. However, I wouldn't suggest deleting this
folder as it is used for various OS related features.
