I have laptops w/ xp pro trying to connect to stand alone
w2k machines. Is there a way to set the w2k machines to
allow for the remote connection?

Are the W2K machines Servers or Professional workstations? To allow RDP
access to W2K servers you need to install and configure terminal services.
W2K Professional doesn't have this functionality built in.

you'd have to use something like Ultravnc
