Message: I have had Windows Defender before, but was wiped out by a system
Restore. When I re-down loaded Windows Defender (saved to desktop and
opened) I receive these messages:
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is
unavailable.

Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the
installation package
'WindowsDefender[1].msi' in the box below.

The pat h 'C:\Documents and Settings\Sue\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files\Content.IE5\X17FWH60\WindowsDefender[1].msi'
cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try
again, or find the installation package
'WindowsDefender[1].msi' in a folder from which you can install the product
Windows Defender.

The Installation source for this product is not available. Verify that it
exists and that you can access it.
I cannot run it or delete it from my list of programs. Please help.

Do a google search on "Windows Installer Cleanup utility"

Click on the result whose URL begins with:

support.microsoft.com

Read the KB article, and download the installer via the link. Install the
Utility by double-clicking the installer file.

Once the utility is installed, run it from the Start menu.

Find Windows Defender in the list of programs and highlight it and remove
it.

This should allow you to reinstall with the new downloaded installer file.

I'd recommend caution with this tool, it can break things.

It is useful when you get a repeated set of messages such as the one you
describe for a product which is either long gone, or present and working
fine, but the installer is confused for some reason.
