One way to do what you are trying is to mute the entire audio track, clip
the video where you want it to fade out, and drag another copy of the video
from your collections directly to the audio portion of the timeline (it will
then recognize it as an audio file). By doing this you have audio that is
not split and should not cause any audio "glitches" when rendering the movie
which I will assume is why you are asking the question.
