How old is the PC? Has it ever been opened and had the dust removed? I
wouldn't be surprised if a cooling fan is clogged with dust. I'd suggest
fixing this immediately before something fails: either buy a can of
compressed "air", open the case and give it some good blasts or take the
tower to someone and have them do it for you.

To me it sounds like a cooling fan needs replacing, it wont be long before
it stops working, if your PC is running slow, it most likely is the Power
supply fan. Check it before it burns up.

pun intended, it sounds like your case fan, mobo fan, or most
likely, your CPU fan is on its last legs. if it is the CPU fan,
best get it fixed and make sure your BIOS is set up to shut your PC
down if it gets too hot. also, if you have a utility that can
monitor temps for you, it'd guide you to what is possibly failing
