as noted in subject. Under desktop-appearance tab control panel. I
can't set the color 2 to make the title bars 2 tone. This is called
gradientactivetitle in the registry. Also I can't set the cleartype
option either although the cleartype powertool will set it.

I see I have the correct themesui.dll if that is what is controling this
property sheet. But I don't know what is telling it to grey out these
controls.

Thanks

Active Title Bar or Inactive Title Bar.

If you select a windows and buttons setting other than Windows Classic, it
will override the following settings, except in some older programs.

Display Properties | Appearance tab | Advanced button | Item

Note: In order to fully use this feature you must have your Windows and
buttons setting on Windows Classic.

In case the previous advice didn't work here is what worked for me. In the registry go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop then delete the binary value called "UserPreferencesMask". Reboot. You will have some prefences that you will have to readjust. If you have another profile on the PC that is not messed you may simply change your binary to match the working profile. Incidently my problem started with a mistake in Auslogic's "BoostSpeed" (System Tweaks>User Interface>Visual Effects) and I checked the value "Display gradient window caption". I have verified that this check mark in fact removes the second color in both the "Active and Inactive" Titlebars.
