Insert a Windows Media Player object (from the More Controls button - Hammer
thingy) and set the url to your webcam feed. BaseURL in properties? Which URL do I need to type in? I don't have any webserver or special webcam software running. |

Hi Ronald,
Give LiveWeb a try: http://www.mvps.org/skp/liveweb.htm. I want to see a live realtime video stream from my webcam. I need to give presentations about navigation equipment. Some normal sheets telling what the equipment is capable off and then sheets with a litte bit of text supporting a live demonstration. An here it is where the webcam comes in. I need a 640x480 (max resolution of the webcam) box in a 800x600 slide (max resolution of the beamer) in which the equipment is shown in a way that you can see the radar/plotter screen and the buttons. Operation of the equipment is good demonstrated this way. I am a complete nono on extented use of Powerpoint. ;-) I never used any advanced feature. Cheers Ronald |

Hi Ronald,
I think I understand now. When you were saying webcam, it implies a video feed across a website URL. Does your webcam use a program? Click on Insert, object, select from file and insert your WebCam program in the PowerPoint slide. It will probably show as an icon. When you run the PowerPoint show, click on the program icon and it should show your WebCam. Right click the control, Properties, Custom (click the 3 dots) then set File
Name or Url field. Most web cams come with some kind of streaming software. In a lost of cases it is a version of Windows Media Encoder. You must have some software to encode and stream the images from the webcam for Windows Media Player to play it. Check the CD that came with your web cam or download and use Windows Media Encoder (WME - it's free). You set your WME job to use your web cam as the input device. The you can set the url in the WMP control to point to the encoding job on that machine. Mine is like this: http://myencodingmachine:8080. WME defaults to port 8080 so that should be o.k. Hello, new member here.
I have the same problem, I want to use a USB webcam as a live stream in a powerpoint presentation. Now I have the url of the feed and can put this into windows media player, all of that is working fine. However when I insert a windows media player object into my slide and right click it "properties" is not an option, it is grayed out and I cant click on it and therefore can not asign the URL to the object. What am I doing wrong? Thanks Josh |
