Default DirectX 9.0a Released

After a quick visit to Windows Update, I just noticed DirectX 9.0a was released a few days ago. I guess Microsoft have been pretty quiet about this release because I haven't heard a thing about it.

You can download it from Windows Update or http://www.microsoft.com/directx

Seems the improvements are to "security and performance".

I take it you've been busy ... it was released several weeks ago only to be taken down ... now they have "fixed" the bugs in the bugs and re-released it.

LOL. Yes, I was away in New York when it was released I guess. Installed this fixed version of the fixed version and it hasn't hosed my box yet. Haven't tried any gaming yet, however. Not into PC gaming much lately anyway.

Fle@B@gl@ne:

Yep, no probs.

I'm using it on two of mine, one has an ATI Radeon 8500 and the other a lowly ATI radeon 7200.

Works fine. Colours appear to be improved on both systems as well.

Funnily enough, I just this minute applied the upgrade/patch for DX9 from MS.

The colors with DX9 show an improvement, I read it somewhere that DX9 performs better with newer cards. Cannot verify that at this stage myself. Matrox site even stated in their forum of Matrox users that older cards (3-4 years) will not really benefit from the new DX9 as they do not have the necessary harware to support the new features of DX9.
