Default PWEXCHEXT32.dll

When I open Outlook 2003, I get message: "The add-in
c:\windows\system32\PWEXCHEXT32.dll could not be
installed or loaded. This problem may be resolved by
using Detect and Repair on the Help Menu."

I tried detect and repair, and I still get the message
when I open outlook.

When I go to Outlook/Tools/Options/Other/Advanced/Add-in
Manager, I see this .dll listed next to a check box. When
I uncheck the box, the message goes away. But I have no
idea what add-in Microsoft is refering to.

Any suggestions on why it's there, and how to get rid of
it permanently.

Thanks.

It is from some add-in you installed for Outlook. You should uncheck it if
it's giving you issues. In addition you can rename extend.dat to extend.old
to reset the listing of Add-Ins.

Thanks for this reply, which is helpful. Can you tell me
what "extend.dat" is and why I just can't delete it,
rather than rename to "extend.old"?
Are there any negative consequences to deleting? To
renaming?

Again, thanks for the good help.

Extend.dat is a registry cache for add-ins. After a deletion/rename the file
will be recreated. I always suggest to rename to .old so you can always
revert back your changes.
